i didn't mean to actually interpret every little word, every little action people do... it's not that i don't care it's just who i am. to not to actually know things without being told.

i mean, i wouldn't know someone's angry unless they tell me. i don't interpret non verbal cues well.

I think you're actually asking two different questions. I believe that true insensitivity usually comes from lack of life experience. Not age necessarily, but people who haven't really had true tragedies or ecstacies in their lives have a very hard time empathizing with people who do. That's the first thing. What you're talking about, though, is nonverbal clues. Some people are just better people watchers than others. There is absolutely nothing wrong with you for having a harder time picking up on what someone else is thinking! To be perfectly honest, I think it's better for everyone to just lay their cards on the table and say what they mean. "Happy, smile. Sad, frown! Use the corresponding face for the corresponding emotion!!" Just try to align yourself with more people who express themselves well and don't expect you to read their minds!!

i wouldnt call that insensitive, just maybe not tuning in,,,,,, being insensitive is when you are told but still cant relate to the person, feel for them etc,,,,,,, i also dont notice or bother picking up on non-verbal ques nor when people do not directly speak about what is concerning them,,,,, someone who expects you to recognize clues/tune in that much to them,, can be being selfish and also insensitive to how you are,,,,

it is a helpful skill to be able to read people, but i'm with you as far as misinterpreting people and them getting upset because your mind reading skills were off the mark a bit.
