when i play madden 07 online and i go into a online game and my opponent looses connection why do i automatically get a loss?

If PS2 online is any like Xbox Live (Which I have), this happens in Halo 2 as well. Plenty of times, I can come across idiots who quit right when the game starts to make some big delay to regain the connection.
This can be because the game has to keep up with the connection and if your opponent has a bad connection, the whole game will lag because not everyone's connection is good at the time.

Although I do not have Madden 07, i've experienced NHL 06 online, when my opponent loses connection DURING a game after the 1st period, u get a win. If your opponent loses connection at the game screen nothing should happen, it could possibly be a glitch, try updating the rosters and such. It could be that because the game has ended, u both get a loss for exiting, i'm not 100% sure, but try it.
