Why not? If I wouldn't use it I would pass it on to someone who would. I'm not being ungrateful I am very thankful I get any presents at all but you're right, they are doing no good sitting in the back of the cupboard and if they sit there long enough they will be no good to anyone. Waste not want not. The giver need never know so what's the harm?

Hi there anniebell,

As long as you don't give it back to the person who bought it for you - I don't see any problem in it.

Alternatively, make some money to buy something you really want by selling on ebay? My little boy has received 3 of the same item, so, I shall be busy after the New Year!

If you don't feel right doing it - how about donating it to charity? Depends on the value of it?

It's ok as long as it's not obvious. Recently i was given two small bottles of handcream and shower gel - they had 'do not sell separately' written on the back. Clearly unwanted parts of a set - it would really have been better for the person not to have given me anything at all! Ifyou do re-gift, ask yourself whether you would actually buy a similar thing for the person. And make sure you remember who got you what, to save any embarassing situations where you give the gift back to them!

I have never regifted and never will. But lets say I go something I didn't like, I would give it some family member that might make good use of it right after the holidays.

I don't regift as such. If I get something I don't want I pass it along to someone who can use it with a remark to match.
If it is really manky (to me, that is), I will donate it to a charity shop.
If nothing else, I dont want to store the blasted things.

It's only wrong if the person who gave it to you gets to know you've passed it on. Maybe other people have passed my presents on, but I don't know, cos no one's told me. So do it, but be discreet.

It is acceptable to re-gift. The 'rule' is that you can't give it to someone that saw you get it in the first place.
