No, it's compatible with PCs but let me save you the hassle I just went through with my new one.
If you're using Internet Explorer, you won't be able to download/install the latest version of the iTunes software unless you make www.apple.com a trusted site. From the Tools menu, select "Internet Options". Click on the "Security" Tab and add "http:\\www.apple.com" to the "Trusted Sites". Uncheck the box about requiring https:.
Oh, and Apple customer service isn't just bad - it's non-existent.

Hey sup,
Nope I have been a Windows user for as long as I can remember (no offense to Apple loyals)... iPod is the ONLY "Apple" thing that I ever bought.
If iPod was only compatible with the Macintosh, then that'd have ruled me out... I'm not into Apple computers.
By the way, your daughter will love her iPod Nano... in fact I love MINE and plan on buying a new 8GB iPod Nano SOON!
Peace out,
LFI.
