If it is truly stainless, then the rust is sitting on top of the finish. Try baking soda and vinegar, then scrub.

Naval Jelly might work. You can usually get it at a store like Walmart or your local grocery store in the cleaning supply isle. It used to come in a pinkish colored jar with a white cap but that could change. It take rust out of just about everything including clothes ……The active ingredient in Naval Jelly is phosphoric acid - the same ingredient used in lower concentrations in Lime Away (which I've rarely found to be helpful. Bar Keepers Freind is awesome for cleaning stainless. It works wonders! You can get it in grocery stores. It's like a scouring powder that doesn't scratch.
