I guess there really is no average. I think my daughter weighed about 17 lbs. by 8 months. Remember -- once a baby starts crawling, they lose some of that "baby fat" look. They start looking leaner because they're moving around. As long as they are eating and active, and not having some stomach or bowel problems, your child's weight will be what's right for him/her.

I wouldn't worry too much about what an 8 month old baby weighs. As long as you don't over feed the baby then why worry. If your baby is chubby, he/she will thin out once they start crawling and even more so once they start walking. If your baby is underweight or your concerned by low weight, ask your doctor at your next well baby check up.
