I want to go to law school but need to work less hours (40-50max) and was wondering what others thought of JD's being paralegals. Or, do lawyers really work more than 50 hrs a week on average? I really like contracts, IP, and natural law. I am a single parent and really need to be home at a decent hour.

Work for the government. A DA or another government job will pay crappy, but you will always be out the door at 5 pm. If you will settle for being a paralegal, don't waste time or money going to law school.

If you just want to be a paralegal, get a degree in criminal justice instead of going to school half your life. If you change your mind you can always return to school.

I can't see why a lawyer could not be a paralegal. It seems like you would be over-qualified- but I can't why it couldn't be done.

not all law jobs will be high-powered, long hours stuff. If you choose a lower key area and are not looking to make partner in a large firm you can still be ok.
