I hope you all had a nice time during Christmas.
I was told that it’s Santa brings Christmas presents when I was a kid, but recently, I found out in some countries, not Santa, but baby Jesus or magic kings bring Christmas presents. My Colombian and Slovakian friends say it's baby Jesus, Dominican and Angolan friends say it’s both, and some people think it’s baby Jesus, some other think it’s Santa, and it's papa noel (that’s Santa, father Christmas, right?) in Uruguay on 25th Dec, and magic kings on 6th Jan. My friend from Basque area says it's Olentzero, who was a Basque miner on 25th, and 3 kings on 6th. I am from Japan, and people say it's Santa.
Don't give me 'it's your friends and parents' answer, because I know that :-) I am just interested in who brings the presents, according to the legend in your country.
Cheers and have a happy new year.

Hi !!! Happy Holidays !!!

My name is Vanessa and I live in a city called São Paulo, in Brasil. I came here when I was 5 years old ( my family is from New York ). Here , Cristmas Celebration is very similar to the USA .in some things. The first difference is the weather. It's summer time and It is extremely hot here ! They sell winter kind of toys and winter Christmas decorations and On Cristmas Eve, Santa Claus ( in our portuguese language we say Papai Noel = Santa )bring presents and He leaves them by the tree. ( I never heard anybody saying here that leave cookies and milk to Santa..like in the US and most of the houses doesn't have fireplaces, so the presents are left by the tree.( we almost don't have winter here., only some colder days on winter time). But if you go to the mall you see Santa dressed in his winter clothes and kids take pictures with him and his wife. Everybody hang colored shyny lights on the windows and in Buildings too. There are many charity too. Many people dresses in Santa and give toys for the poor children. And on Cristmas Eve , everybody get together with their families and celebrate with light food because it is too hot to eat heavy food. Some people cook the Special food themselves others order Special Christmas food some days before and have it delivered at home. I had different kinds of salads with fruits and a cake and a delicious Brasilian sweet called brigadeiro made with condensed milk and chocolate powder. And we sing Cristmas Carols. We sing american ones and the Brasilians sings many american songs translated to English. We also have " Amigo Secreto" = means I guess Secret Santa. We exchange gifts.
On Cristmas Day we have Special lunch to celebrate jesus.
Happy New Year !! Happy 2007 with happiness and peace and love.

In the country I was born in it is Santa on the 25th December, In the country I now live, Santa bring presents on the 25th December, but the Reyes (Kings) also bring presents on the 6th January, originally it was mainly the Kings, but getting presents at Christmas as well has increased over the last 20 years.

It's Santa (Mos Craciun) in Romania as well, but also Saint Nicolas (Sfantul Nicolae), on the 6th of December, which brings mostly sweets, fruits and smaller presents.
Mom told me that Santa Claus only 'appeared' here after the 1989 Revolution, when we got contact with other countries, except the communist ones. Before, under the Dictator Ceausescu's, Saint Nicolas was the only guy bringing gifts, such as apples and nuts, as there were no fruits, toys or nice things to buy. But things have changed for the better. =)
