Yo Mugins,
Nuts are seeds. Seeds must be alive to germinate. Dead seeds will not germinate. Soooo, if your nuts are alive, like not having been roasted or too old, they will germinate if given the correct treatment. The treatment involves amount of cold, light, and moisture required to wake up the seed. Many nuts require a minimum amount of cold to satisfy one of the requirements for their waking up. Commercial nut tree growers collect fresh nuts and put them in a refrigerator for "X" amount of days to break the cold requirement. Each species has its own minimum amount of time required for cold, then enough heat like in the spring when the sun warms the ground and throw in light and moisture.
Light, too much light tells the seed it's not buried deep enough. Or, not enough light tells the seed not to open. Moisture, not enough and the seed knows that if it germinates -- it's gonna die from the lack of water. Too much water, like flooded, the seed knows it will not have enough air. Each species of seed has its own combination, like a combination lock; if the correct numbers are not entered -- nothing happens, it will not open.

nuts will grow but you will have to soak them in water for at least 24 hours then plant them in soil (pots and dirt) then put them outside and forget about them till the summer then you will notice loads and loads of shoots just pick the best and plant them where you want them to grow, some plants like brazil nuts will have to stay in the warm as they come from a warm climate and monkey nuts wont either but the rest will be fine

Yes, but you need to do more than just planting them. You need to water them and apply some nutrients. But if you want to prove this, just do what i have said and you see them growing.
