I want to send £1000 to my friend in Australia. Barclays used to charge £8 for an international money order in Australian dollars, but I have been told they only do them in US dollars, sterling and euros now, and the cost is £25. I do not know my friend's bank account details, so a money order seems the only option. Any suggestions please?

I don't know where you are, but Western Union seems the best way. I'm not sure whether their fee changes depending on the amount of money being sent, but about a month ago I sent a couple hundred internationally and it cost about $15. The have a website where you can get more info. Good luck!
