You divide your trip in to historical, entertinement and leisure. South India gives you all exp in fact each state has its own historical center, pilgrimage entertinement as well as leisure place.

TN - Madurai, Tanjore, Chennai, Mabalipuram, Tirchy etc.
Kerala - Trivandram, Guruvayur, Sabarimalai (Only in Nov to Jan mid)
Andhra - Hyderabad, Nagarjuna sagar, Tirupathi, Warangal etc
Karnataka - Blore, Mysore (palace), Hampi, Belur, Halabid, Bijapur etc.
Entertinement - all cities like Blore, Hyd, Chennai, Madurai, Kochin has entertinement facilities like beacheds, amusement parks, resorts etc

No entertainments except site seeings.Some night clubs are there in the City of Cochin related to some star hotels.But it is not so thrash as the American.Goa is better.If it is for the sight seeing Kerala is better.If you expect a neat and clean place youNEVER go to COCHIN.

South India offers rich culture (Hampi, Thanjavur), beautiful temples (Guruvayoor, Kumbakonam, Thanjavur, Kanyakumari, Rameshwaram), beaches (Chennai, Kerela, Kanyakumari), hill stations (Ooty, Kodaikanal, Coonor, Mysore), lush greeneries (Kerela). If you want to enjoy city life, Bangalore is a good place to visit.

South is the cultural regions of India..so you msut visit ancient temples at Madurai, Hampi, Mahabalipuram...take a tour to Pondicherry engraved with French influence and visit Vivekannada ashram to rejuvenate your senses...see Calicut(cochin or kochi) where the Vasco Da Gama landed..land of spice gardens. and relive with Aromatherapy and traverse backwaters in Kettuvallams(house boats) in Kerala with a visit to Periyar wildlife sanctuary land of elephants...and lastly see the sunset at Kanyakumari...at the confluence of Arabian sea, Indian Ocean and Bay of Bengal.....ENJOy!!
