You have a lot of semi-informational answers. The corn produces xanthophylls and carotenes, yellow and orange pigments. These pigments absorb all colors of light in sunlight except for the yellow light which is reflected. The reflected light is what you see.
Corn that is other colors has the same reasoning but different pigments for different colors.

Not all corn is yellow. There is red, blue, and white too. So in that is the answer . . . pigment. The predominate pigment masks the other colors. It's all in the genes, Jean. :-)
Ever hear of white corn tamales? Guess what, made from white corn. White corn has very little yellow pigment.
There are also green corn tamales, Mmmmmmm!!! Made from corn that has not ripened all the way to color out to yellow or white etc. Anyway, green corn tamales are preferred by many because of the flavor. But, you know the color, be it white, yellow, blue or otherwise, it's what's inside that counts and the inside is always white. Ask Orville.

many years ago when the earth was forming and the fish decided to become men, Corn was green. The trouble with being green was it looked like grass, and every kind of animal ate it. The corn started changing color for a defense. First it became brown, but all the wild hogs thought it was mud, and they would wallow in it until it was destroyed. Then it changed it's color to red. But it looked so much like blood, that nothing would eat it. The corn realized that if it was not eaten, it would grow too crowded and starve to death, and become extinct. So in desperation, it changed it's color to yellow, and that is the perfect color for it. Although, with mankind's interference, the Red,Brown and White variety has reemerged. The corn community is trying now to see how to handle this new threat.

I have no idea. There is the butter and sugar (yellow/white) corn also. Why is any vegetable the color it is (e.g. carrots = orange).
