2-3 days is average, athough sperm has been known to survive for a week.
If you're TRYING to get pregnant you assume the sperm can live for 2 days, if you're trying to AVOID pregnancy you assume it lives for 5-7 days.

I disagree with some that peg the viability of a guy's sperm at in basic terms 2-3 days interior uterus (that's what i think of you meant -- as quickly as in the vagina, being pregnant won't be able to happen and the egg/sperm is as stable as lifeless). Sperm can stay for no less than 5 days (and consistent with risk as many as 7 below uniquely suitable circumstances). See the planned Parenthood link describing emergency birth control (they supply 5 days). that's genuine that a woman's egg can stay for around an afternoon (or 2, optimal) interior the uterus. because of the lag time with sperm, meaning that the two a million-2 to days till now receiving ejaculate to as much as a week later, fertilization is conceivable.

All of the answers you see can be right. It depends on the environment in which the sperm is living. Also Male sperm are less likely to live longer because they are smaller and Female sperm usually tend to be bigger but they are slower. So the Males die fast and the females are slow. But generally 5-7 days.

Well you have been told right without air or oxygen hitting the sperm it can survive a whole 3 days. In that time yes it still has time to fertilize the egg and you may become pregnant.

After a woman ovulates the egg will survive approximately 24 hours. Sperm, on the other hand, will live for up to three to five days. This is why having sex two to three days before ovulation will increase your chances of getting pregnant. Don’t wait until the day you ovulate to have sex. Your partner’s sperm will last longer than your egg and you don’t want to miss an opportunity by waiting.

My books all say that in a favorable vaginal environment with fertile cervical mucus the sperm can live for up to 5-7 days.
