I started doing pelvic floor exercises + a tiny number of pseudo sit ups (really really gentle) next day after the birth to pull all the stretched areas back in pronto. It seems to have helped a lot and breastfeeding too as I am now smaller in size than pre-pregnancy and am by no means a fitness fanatic. I think bite size chunks and gentleness is the answer for starters + as per a lot of other answers, circa 6 weeks before going full on. It will be a cross that bridge as you come it as you what works for you.

I had to wait until my post-natal check with my GP at 6 - 8 weeks for the all clear to exercise again. However, the midwife said that there was no reason not to get hubby pushing the pram and for us to go on some gentle walks as soon as I felt up to it. That was 2 years ago. I had a C-section and so held off on tummy exercises for a while.

Take a page from my late mother and those late women that had past on, they use to be active some time hewers before they deliver and because of, I think they have to breast feed that young one witch was, and still very good, they stayed home for a few months. but exercising I think you can & should start exercise early because it help to tighting those loose skin quicker & earler so I would say if you did not have any problem with the birth you should start earley.By the way dont be too quick to let doctor recomend cutting to take that child out of you because most of the time it is unnessary, you can have your child without been cut, so don't be too quick to lesen to that doctor. GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR YOUNG ONE. and make shoure you brest feed him or her.>>>>.

Excersise is a tricky thing when it comes to births, doctors will say that light excersise may help the healing process but too much can hinder it and the line is very fine. Just start out with light walking, if the discharge and bleeding get worse slow down.

midwife will tell you about 6 weeks, but if you want to start before then, then i would reccomend simple walking, thats what i did and the weight really started to shift, then when you feel a bit more "normal", then back to the gym, or whatever you can manage! dont worry to much about getting a bit porky, thats normal lol, and im sure the weight loss will be fine for you, just dont do to much too soon, or you will hurt yourself, and the new baby needs a well mummy!

My boys are 21 and 16 and I still haven't got round to exercising!!!! Unfortunately it shows. Seriously though it will depend on how the birth went and any complications. Your doctor/midwife would be the best to ask advice as they will know your personal circumstances-every one will be different. Good luck with the pregnancy.

It really dpends on how you are feeling. I would say around 6weeks that way your body has enough time to get back to normal(almost). Doing to much to soon, even if you are feeling well, may push your body to hard.
