Yesterday I was erasing my DVDs when I encountered a problem. While erasing this particular DVD I notice it was done and the disc did not eject itself out. I push the eject button many times but nothing happened. So I went ahead and eject it maunally. But my mistake was that forgot to turn off the computer to do. After I eject the disc ad restart the computer, I see that (there nothing in it) the drive can't open. I see its trying to open but it can't. Is there something I can do to fix this?

Aside from replacing the drive, there is not much you can do. I have the exact same problem on my home computer. Manually open the drive, attach a piece of tape or something you can grab onto. When you hit eject, pull on the tab to manually open. As long as the drive still works and you're not bothered by having to grab a tab to open the drive, there is no problem.

This problem occurs when the drivers become corrupt. Right tic on My Computer>select Manage>select device manager>tic on CD/DVD Drives>right tic on the problem drive>select uninstall>reboot the computer and allow the drivers to reload. Your optical drive should function properly now.

there is a very tiny hole on the side of the eject button. get a tiny stick (as tiny as the hole) and push it into the hole. the tray containing the disc will eject then.

See if it is a software issue at all.

Try rebooting to safe mode to see if it reads there.

You may need to delete the upper and lower filters in your registry. After you do so, uninstall/reinstall your burning software.

Hopefully this helps:

If it doesn't work, replace the drive. Hope you have a current warranty, though replacement DVD-writers go for less than 50$ these days.

Sounds like your drive died, BUT if you find out who made it and model number you can check the makers website and download and install a new firmware for it. This may or may not work.

Considering DVD are about 40 bucks you may want to buy a new one.
