Pandering or responding to public priorities, which is kind of the same thing.
Honestly, who gets more attention in our society, popular entertainers of public leaders? You know the answer.
Most people have no interest in some boring old guy doing boring old stuff that might actually affect their lives and potentially influence our history.
Ask the average person to name 20 movie actors and 20 recording stars. Few will fail that test.
Now ask the same person to name five current cabinet secretaries and five U.S. Senators.
What result do you think you'll get?

The press is only giving the people what they want.

I was just thinking that poor James Brown's death seems to be shadowed by Gerald Ford's (at least in the Chicago area).
Guess your location must make a difference - if I didn't read about James Brown's death the other day on the internet - I wouldn't have known it.

I think it just seems like Brown is getting more atention because he passed away first, and his funeral, etc. is occurring as we speak. Ford's funeral, etc. hasn't fully begun yet. Don't worry, by early next week, Ford will be all over the news and press as the "action" (if you will) occurs. Also, Ford's funeral, etc. will take place over about six days, so the media has plenty of time to cover his life as well as his death.

I don't agree. James Brown got a lot of coverage yesterday because of the public viewing in Harlem. Let's see what you think after both have been buried.

I think that both men have been given a equal amount of press time. There is no pandering involved.

I do not think so.
But lets face it James Brown is the God father of Soul. He will always be that.
I think at the end of the day he was more famous than Ford.
