make a list on a separate tablet, etc. and then mark a number on each box and on the list put the contents of each box on the tablet; so if you have box 6 on the sheet and it says 'kitchen ware' for example, you know that that box has that particular item/s in it...make SURE you have enough stuff for the first night or two at your new place; bedding, dishes, cooking utensils, etc., whatever youd need right away that people usually forget about ....that way at least youll have a comfortable 1st night or two without rummaging thru all the boxes!!

Having moved numerous times throughout my life (including just a few months ago from an apartment to my first condo), I have gained experience with doing this. My best tips include the following:
Start packing early. This can be a very time-consuming and tiring process.
Prior to packing, place three large cardbox boxes in the middle of your living room floor. Label these "Donate", "Distribute" and "Dump". Work through your belongings and decide what you can dispose of ... "donated" items can go to a worthwhile charity, "distributed" items can be given to friends who may find better use or have more room for these things and "dumped" items will be tossed in the closest garbage dumpster (doing this can be a wonderful feeling!). Filtering through your belongings will lighten your load and quicken your move.
Label your packed boxes as to which room they came from. Knowing that a certain box is destined for the kitchen or the bathroom, for example, will make things far easier when it comes to unpacking.
Hire professional movers. Book early and try to schedule your move on a mid-month weekend (when the movers will not be as busy). When it comes to finding reputable movers, ask around and see if anyone you know can refer you. Ask about insurance and bonding. When I last moved, I learned that my movers also owned their own trucks (and subcontracted to the moving company). With this arrangement, the movers would be far more careful and responsible as they are less apt to want to damage their own investment.
Move anything you're nervous about yourself.
Locate an outside storage unit for any larger/unneeded items. Such places often exist where individuals can cost-effectively rent secured space to store valuables (look in your telephone book under "storage"). Arrange with your movers to make a side trip and haul whatever you don't need immediately over there.

My biggest thing was to have everything boxed before you move.
Don't leave anything until the last minute, you won't have enough time! Even pots and pans were boxed about three days before we moved, we just ate out a lot!
That way, I was able to help actually move, rather than let the guys move while I was still boxing. It went much faster.
Oh, and I would splurge on a big truck, that way it all goes in one or two trips rather than about a thousand in your car.
Good luck and enjoy the new house!

Buy a bottle of scotch. Toss your husband the keys to the pick-up, and go visit your sister. When he calls you -- you will either be moved or divorced. Otherwise get a bunch of nice looking boxes 'cause without storage, you'll be looking at those boxes for a long time.

get lots of friends to help.. if you have the time, move it one room at a time, {since ur just moving across town--} so you can organzise as you go along. and remember, laundry baskets can serve as boxes ina pinch... also, dont bother taking ur hanging laundry off the hangers.. just put a seat down in ur car, and move them on the hanger, so all you have to do is hang them up when you get to your new place. if your worried about storage, check into a storage place
mos tof all.. good luck!

sounds like the "young little ones" are taking area in a unfastened journey. diffused tricks fall on deaf ears. She needs to sit down down with them and state, in no unclear words, that it somewhat is time for them to go out on their own. A timetable needs to be set to offer the youngsters an threat to locate a sparkling place to stay (no extra advantageous than a pair of weeks). in the event that they have not moved out via the set time, the locks would desire to get replaced. tell her she would desire to stand company or her young little ones will proceed to stroll throughout her and use her. they may well be dissatisfied together with her in the previous each and every thing, yet they are going to come around and thank her later.

Before the move, store irreplaceable things such as photos and documents somewhere safe such as your parent's house. Also, breakable things. Then retrieve them after the move. That way, they don't get mixed in with other things.
