1. Let your personality come through. An interviewer wants someone who shows confidence and is comfortable carrying a conversation. (They are also looking for someone who will fit in) Be able to promote yourself.

2. Dress appropriately - Sounds obvious, but the last interviewing committee I served on turned down several candidates because they looked like they were on their way to the grocery store rather than an interview

3. Be honest. If you don't know the answer say you don't know, but also suggest ways to improve your skills/find the answer/etc.

4. Try to relax. Take some deep breaths before walking in.

The best way to have a successful interveiw, i.e. get the job, is to plan out the interview beforehand.

There are several things I always do before an inteview:
-research the company, become familiar with what they do, who the managers are, etc.
-find something to wear. It is always best to be overdressed than underdressed. Also dress for the position above the one you are inteviewing for.
-gather samples of your previous work to take with you, or at least letters of recommendations. I always take writing samples with me.
-practice answering common interviewing questions.
-think of some good questions to ask of the person interviewing you. My favorite is: What does it take to be successful at this job.
-always say thank you at the end of an interview and assume you are goint to get the job (have an attitude of confidence).
