I need to know how to make 1000 thread count sheets softer. Have tried washing a couple of times but still no change. Any ideas?

If the sheets are poly or cotton-poly blend, they will not get softer. This has been ongoing at my house. Once I got 100% cotton sheets, the difference has been amazing.

If your sheets are 100% cotton, 1000 is a very very high thread count, and the material was made to be extremely durable. The higher the thread count, the more the material will feel like canvas, and it will just take time for the fibers to relax to a softer state.

Overdosing a bit with good quality fabric softener will also make the surface of the sheets feel softer to the touch until the fibers actually relax.

To make a high thread count sheet softer, you have to use mild soap when washing and also DO NOT dry on high heat because it destroys the weave and therefore the sheets feel harder on your soft skin. Good Luck !

Maggie (above) is right about the Downy; forget dryer sheets, and use a fabric softener that goes into the rinse water. It really makes a difference!

Read the lable and use the hottest water that they say you can use, then add a lot of softener. Some say that the higher the thread count the rougher the material, I really only use flannel and 300 count.Give it a try then call the company you bought them from and ask them...Good Luck...

Use Downy fabric softener in the wash cycle, rinse cycle and then use the Downy softener sheets in the dryer! Will feel and smell great! After they soften up, just use in the rinse cycle and sometimes the dryer.

Dawn after you wash them in the rinse section when washing. And if you love a specil odor or exquisite smell, try putting son drops of your perfume in the rinsing cicle. I have been doing that for many many years and everyone that steps into my home or my rom they inmediately tell me that thay feel a soft radiant smell in every part of my room or rooms.

A nice fabric softener like Simple Pleasures works real well for me. Plus they smell heavenly when you go to bed. I use Lavender and just love it.
