► Just use NVU editor (www.nvu.com), it's free and wont tie you down to one method of editing. NVU pages can be transferrable to frontpage or dreamweaver html editor
SEE http://www.interkeys.com/htmleditor for more info on Premium HTML Editors (WYSIWYG)
► For free hosting, try google pages pages.google.com or yahoo geocities ,
its sort of free hosting, but you are limited to a subdomain on googlepages & geo has ads on your website - otherwise I would use http://www.interkeys.com/tophosts to get one for a few bucks a month with 500 GIG bandwidth and the rich with features
its up to you how developed a site you want and if you want to use your own domain name

Not a good idea. If a person is going to run a business then it should be run as a business.
No you can't have a web site that will attract any customers for free. The free sites will not be of any real use to any business.
Sites most of the time are charged by the number of hits they get. Find a good web host and go from there.
Free is most always to costly so it is better to pay.
Don't make sense to you, think about it.

You can get websites for free everywhere these days. However, they are all hosted on other people's servers. The problem with this is that you end up with a silly web address, that means nothing to your business. If you are going to purchase a domain name- go for one ending in .co.uk as they are the cheapest and when you buy this get one that includes web space and a site builder.

The above link is one of the cheapest.

Microsoft Word and Publisher along with other programs can help you make a free website....sometimes the quality is always that of a professional website, but it will do!
Also the company below has done some inexpensive websites and even for some big name places too...check them out

Do you mean you need a free web design package? Businessess are supposed to pay for their software but home users can often download free oder versions; try the Serif website, they often give away older versions of their software.
Also look for the For Dummies series of books second hand, there are a couple about web design. If you can learn to write the code you can design a simple site using Notepad, and you can see it in offline mode using your browser so you can check your code works before you upload it to the server.

Also look for web design freeware on Download.com and snapfiles.com.

Well, actually, you can generally get free hosting for small sites. But, without someone with web design knowledge, you may not get the look you are seeking. Web hosting is just that; a place to put your website. They generally do not set-up and design the site for you. (Unless you pay them to).

You can do it for free. You can go to zoomshare.com and create a free simple website. A better site would be moonfruit.com,if you would like to get more technical. There you can create really great flash websites for free. Trust me, i know from experience.
Cheers!

For a very basic free site (or page) just so they have a presence on the net - why not use MySpace?

Most ISPs give you some free Web space. My does. Does yours?
Microsoft Frontpage is fairly foolproof.
