I do. I think that Saddam has done some bad things. But simply by saying he was responsible for the killing of "x" number of people doesn't make him a monster to me. If that were the case than many of our Presidents have been/are monsters. The guy had a valid reason for attacking Kuwait. It used to be part of his country! Kuwait was considered to be a part of the Iraqi territory. So much so that the Kuwaiti people paid Saddam to protect them during the Iraq-Iran war in the late 80's.
Kuwait was once an impoverished nation and their main export used to be pearls. However, once oil was discovered it became the first of the Arab Nations to draw Western interest. If Kuwait were still selling pearls, and not oil, we never would have had a Gulf War. Thereby, Saddam would not be thought of as such a monster. Just another Dictator of another small country somewhere outside our borders.

Money isn't the root of all evil ...evil is. And today's evil is oil!

He should die...he committed many, many crimes...there are two problems with life is prison for him...1) He could still have influence or run some parts of the insurgency, if he is dead the Baathist may begin to see their cause is hopeless, while he is alive there is always hope. 2) A few years from now, Iraq may have a government that will pardon him...so death for Saddam is the best thing for the majority of the Iraqi people...the majority of the Iraqis hate him...

Well, I'm totally all for the death penalty under some circumstances...but for this, I think he should stay alive for the simple fact that he SHOULD spend life in prison- and not the kind of prison where you sleep on a feather bed and watch tv all day while you munch fine chocolates. I'm talking about putting him into a prison where he will get abused to all hell just like he did to other people. karma gets people- by us killing him, we're making it easier on him. ~shrugs~

While I personally would enjoy the knowledge he was going to spend the next 20 odd years as Bubba's b*tch, the reality is that he still has supporters and much like the Mafia crimelords, would probably still be operational in prison. Let him hang. The man has done enough damage.

We should keep him alive and have people pick his brain for the rest of our lives. We could find out how one of the worlds darkest leaders ticks. It could help everyone recognize these types earlier and know how to deal with them. Of course we would keep him in a dirthole prison becuase he is ultimate scum.

Death is not a punishment. Life in prison is. Saddam should be in prison for the rest of his life.

I am sure that an Iraqi maximum security prison is no Disneyland!

The death penalty is wrong so me. A government saying murder is wrong and then highlighting it by murdering just doesn't make sense. It was wrong for Saddam to order executions but right to order his?

Edit: DueceRider I have been called many things in my life but brain dead liberal certainly isn't one of them.

i don't think he should. I admit Americans do have a culture that does and rightfully should make the middle easterns angry, but for gosh sakes he should mind his business and he killed so many innocent respectful people. He should die.
