It requires linear logical thinking, and for most people that can be quite a strain. Most people don't have the attention span to follow the axioms and proofs. I think once you get past the different perspective of logical thinking, it can be quite fun.

Unfortunately, I think a lot of it has to do with their teachers. A lot of people hate math because they have crappy teachers. I hated math in middle school because I had teachers who made me feel like I was stupid and I didn't understand anything. Then I had two good teachers who turned things around for me. I ended up loving math so much that I got my bachelors degree in it and now I teach it. Some of my students say that they love math now because I make it fun. That's one of my goals. Math doesn't have to be all boring memorization of formulas and practice problems over and over again. It can be fun, and I try to let my students have fun in my classes. Teachers make all the difference.

In my experience, there are two kinds of people. Those who love English and hate Math, and those who love Math and hate English. It is just the way your brain works. I absolutely love math and I could do it all day, but I detest English. I have met only one person who loved both English and Math both, one person out of thousands, and she even grew up to be a farmer, lol. It's just the way the world works.

People hate it for the same reason others like it. Mathematics is a sort of complex game with rules, lots of rules. Rules to make other rules and so on.

If one is competent at this sort of thing, it will be enjoyable. If not, not.

Just as a good runner enjoys running because he is a good runner, so too do the mathematically literate enjoy their sport.

i don't believe of there's a particular psychological ailment (except a phobia of numbers) that makes human beings hate math. i do compared to math because i stumble upon it ridiculous getting to understand a thanks to sparkling up a math challenge merely to be able to do it and in no way have any actual existence software. I handed physics, chemistry and biology with a 4.0 G.P.A. with no topic because I had a reason to understand a thanks to do the mathematics. I really handed college algebra because there is no software to it in my existence. I flew threw records because it has a existence software.

It is like anything else, people like this, people hate that, variety is the spice of life. I think many people who hate math just haven't had positive experiences with it, haven't seen it for what it is, a way to express one's self. Others don't value self-expression. Go Salt&Pepper: "You've got to express yourself, you've got to be you........"
