The milk may not be suiting him well. Its not making him full enough. Give him some rice, but make sure it isnt too thick. I started feeding my son at four months and he did fine. just be careful!

He should be on first milk for six months because it has all the vitamins he needs as he won't be getting many from the small amount of food he will be eating. Change the brand of milk if he is not settled on cow and gate, but don't give follow on milk.
As for solids, it is advised to start weaning from 4 to 6 months. Bigger babies tend to wean sooner. The signs for when he is ready is when he looks interested when you are eating, waking in the night when he never used to and needing more ferequent bottles. I would wait a few more weeks before introducing solids, then I would start with baby rice for a week then add fruit or veg to it but only one new flavour every 3 days, if he has an allergy to something, then you will know what it is.

I personally would not feed him solids until six months or as near as possible to that age. Has baby been unwell in any way, maybe had a blocked nose? as this will affect his feeding. Be careful about which milk you give him, dont keep swapping and make sure the milk is for his age group as they are made to meet the needs of the specific age group. Speak to your health visitor again or see if you can see a different health visitor at the clinic for advice. Visit cow and gate website or other formula milk websites for advice and information.

I have ten and eight year old boys. When my first was born, weaning began at 3 months for which he took to well, but then two years later when I had my second son, the weaning age was changed to four months. I weaned my second son at 3 months the same as my first and everything was ok. The only thing I would like to point out in case this is relevant, they were both reletively big babies one at 8pound11 and the other 7pound12 when born. I don't know if weight has anything to do with when to wean a baby. Good luck!

It's the best to breastfeed him or formula feeding until baby reaches 6 month old. It's safer not to introduce solid (fruit or cereal or juices) before 6. The best you can do is to ask baby's pediatrician. A baby 4 months old should drink an estimated of 5 to 6 bottles of formula a day, that is, a bottle every 3 to 4 hours, and the last bottle should be at around 10:30 to 11 pm until 5 or 6 am the next morning...that what my baby ate.

From 16 weeks on I started giving my little girl a few teaspoons of quite runny baby rice with her last bottle of the evening and found she settled better because she was full up. From four months you can start introducing baby rice, pureed fruit etc. If you pop in the chemists or supermarket and look at the jars of baby food it will tell you on there what age you can give them to your baby. Some are four months and some are six months, so make sure you check before you give your son anything.

most health visitors will tell you to keep your baby on milk only for the first six months.i stated weaning my sone when he was 3 months, he is now 6 months and absolutely fine. if he needs solid food, and that is what he wants, then give him it. just keep it runny, and for now just stick to baby rice and fruit, stuff like blended banana, stewed apple, pears etc, but no citrus fruits untill he is 6 months.

what people say about staying on milk for 6 months is just government guidelines, if it is what he wants then let him. if he is feeding every 2 hours he is obviously not getting full enough, just make sure he has at least a pint of his usual milk a day

Hello. Step Up infant milk formula is iron enriched and is suitable for babies who are more than six months old. You health visitor is correct. The closer that you can get to the six month mark before introducing solids the better it will be for your baby. Babies who are weaned too early may develop allergies like eczema and asthma in later life, Have you considered using a formula for the 'hungrier baby'? When you do begin weaning then a teaspoon of pure baby rice mixed with eight teaspoons of formula is sufficient for your baby. Remember to introduce savoury flavours like pureed vegetables, meat or fish before you introduce your baby to sweet flavours. Hope this helps.

I am a mother of 3, and have heard all of it from the doctors and health advisors. I am letting you know that if you want you child to be satisfied and you want to get any sleep, feed the child some baby rice. I actually started putting rice in my oldest daughter's bottle when she was about a month old. Trust me, all of my kids are perfectly healthy, with the exception that my son has asthma but that has nothing to do with his diet. My children were all eating jar food by the time they were 3 months old, and table food by around 5 months old. I am not saying feed the child anything, just use your judgement. My son ate mashed potatoes everyday(thanks to his grandma).....I never had a problem with my children being hungry, and I got plenty of rest.

advice on baby care changes over the years as docs learn more.
the advice now is not to give any solids until 6 months as this is when a babys tummy can digest it easily.the other reason is starting solids to early can bring on food allergies.your midwife and doctor do know what they are talking about, people are always in such a rush to start feeding there baby because they think it will make them sleep longer.at the end of the day you need to do what you feel is right.
my daughter was happy with milk only untill she was 5 months.

Keep persevering with the mik for now as weaning is not advised until 6 months - my HV has said 5 months at the earliest. Have you tried offering larger feeds as my son was taking 6-7oz every 4 hours at this age.
Speak to your HV about him being sick too as this may make him seem hungrier. Hope it works out for you.
