do you think i still have a chance of becoming a journalist? English is my 2nd language so i feel that that's one of the main reasons why my english isn't as great as others. I have trouble being clear. Is there still hope for me? (i'm 20yearsold) And does it make sense that I want to be a writer, even when i dont have the natural talent?

can't write? who cares! have you seen the trash that "real" journalists extract out of their rectums? you don't need to be an accomplished writer; rather, you need to come into every story assuming that (one of: bush/ republicans/ americans/ whitey/ humans) are at fault, no matter what it is, and you'll have newspapers falling over each other trying to hire you!

Why don't you try writing in your native language? If you are, for example, an African living in America, you could probably try and get a job as an American correspondent for an African newspaper, radio station or news channel. My advice, if that is not possible, would be to read books and newspapers in English, and your English shall definitely become better. You WILL be a journalist! I am a journalist, but when I was young I had a speech impediment, hearing problems and great difficulty in reading and writing. But I am now training to be a journalist, and working part time for a newspaper. And I was recently awarded Young Journalist of the Year 2006 by a national broadcaster in the United Kingdom, where I live. If I can do it, you can too! P.S My teacher use to tell me that my writing was absolute garbage. She would not dare tell me that now! So stop telling yourself that you don't have a natural talent for writing, because you have the passion for journalism, and with that comes a very rare gift for writing and communicating through the media.

Being a journalist requires good grammar, composition, research techniques, interview skills, style and many more subjects necessary to impress editors with your work. If you have talent in journalism in your native language then try those venues first. Frankly if you don't really have the passion then maybe consider a different occupation. You're twenty and others who started back in high school working on the school's newspaper etc. are already advanced - they furthered honed their skills in good college journalism schools. Take a look at your other career passions as more success may be found there. You can always do story-telling or blogs etc if you want to write.
Best wishes ☺

Um well I think writting is one of those talents that has to be natural. It's not like dancing... it's more like singing. I've always been a very good writter eventhough I never tried or cared to be one. You can try to improve but if there's NO sign of a writting talent then give it up. You definately need a wide vocabulary and I know that comes from your up-brining. I would just try writting as much as possible, all types of formats and subjects, etc.

You can do anything, but it takes a lot of practice. If you want to write, start writing. Try submitting things to editorials or stories to writer's magazines. Work on your writing skills.
