Command and Conquer Generals is a good war game...got it for my son for x-mas and he plays it constantly. I checked it out also and it is really fun.

Check out http://www.steampowered.com . I like to play Counterstrike. Most of the games available on Steam you can play against others in the internet so it's pretty much realtime and intense. They've got quite a variety so I'm sure you can find some cool war type games. I don't know of any racing or sports games. I stick to the PS2 for those.
