When a fuel truck is unloading into a sevice stations tank it stirs up the sediment that is in the bottom of the tank...but with all of the filters used before the fuel goes into the tank of your vehicle there really isn't too much to be worried about. I've fueled my car while tanks have been filled and never had any problem. It would be up to you to decide wether or not you would want to do that.

The pumping of the gas from the truck to the station's tanks stirs up any sediment that would be in the bottom of the tank. Plus, if anything would possibly go wrong, there could be a bigtime fire, perhaps an explosion. Those two reasons are why I don't refuel at a station that's refueling itself.

I was told it was best NOT to get gas while a gas truck is unloading, if there's any 'trash' ( pieces of paper, water etc.) in the bottom of the tank the new gas that's being put in will force the trash to the top, perhaps causing the trash to be dispensed into your vehicle.

I used to work at a gas station and I know that you shouldn't get gas when the gas truck is unloading gas to the station. It may cause problems.

Ah, another urban legend. As long as you follow the rules; turn your engine off, no smoking....... you will be fine. Gas fumes are heavier than air and if there are any, and there will be very little, will stay low to the ground. The slightest breeze will dissipate what little fumes there are. If you still don't feel comfortable, wait or go to another gas station. As far as trash making it into your gas tank, don't worry, all modern gas pumps have filters on them. In my 12 years of firefighting I have never seen nor heard of any such problem.

Doesn't seem like you should, but I suppose it all depends on what you ate before you got to the gas station, anyway, they probably sell Pepto-Bismol so you'll be good to go in no time ! Oh no, not again, that was a medical question and I'm STILL on the wrong web-page !! lol ;)

the only reason i would think that you shouldn't is that the tank might have sediments in it and filling the tanks will stir them up.....possibly plugging your fuel filter
