Go for R-45, You can double stack fiberglass if needed.

you don't say where you live so go to a home store and ask what is recommended. there is a gov.t site dept. of energy, i think, that has recommendations for different areas of the u.s. , but easier to ask where you plan to buy it. the simplest answer is; any is better than none. fill the joist bays to start, as a minimum. then if you need more you run it across the joists the other way. good luck and happy new year!
