It's a two way street. It would be nice if all the meanies got together so that the rest of us could have a chance at being happy. It's only natural to put everyone in the same category when you get your heart broken. The key is not to make the next person pay for what the previous person did. We never learn and make the same mistakes over and over until we're too bitter to accept love when it's being offered. That's just my opinion.

Perhaps the heartless characteristic is gender neutral, and people try to use gender as an excuse for lack of a discerning nature.

it goes both ways, I think that everyone can be heartless now and then. Its rare to find a goodhearted person. But they do exist!
