It's more like trying to keep an open mind because you have to imagine any possible ways of the problem and that is hard for a logical person to understand.
Imagination helps in a lot of problems to reach solutions to hard problems. You just have to keep an open mind and consider all the possibilities that come to mind.

I can, but using one's imagination to figure out things has two issues:

1) Everyone's imagination is deeply personal, so everyone figures things out differently when relying upon it.

2) You need to check what you figure out with your imagination to see if it is simply a wild imagining, or is in fact supported by empirical data.

I tend to think more with pictures than with words, anyways. Or while dreaming. And when I wake up - bam! there's the answer.
