You must have one f the Faulty batch of iPods(Apple Has Acknowledge they exist).
Either return to Original Retailer or take directly to Apple Store for a Replacement.
Apple are Really Cool with warranty issues, and will straight swap You!

The best thing to do is to reupdate/ relaunch your ipod on a different computer but the only problem is that when you will do that all your previous information will get deleted and you will have to put all the songs all over again.

That sounds bad. Can you restore the factory settings? In itunes does it appear. If so restore it. Everything will be deleted. If you can't then try searching this forum: http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=146.
Otherwise if it is very new most stores should let you do a swap-if it's within 14 days. That is Apple's policy.

The best thing is to reupdate your ipod on another computer and then try downloading the songs from that computer.
Best of luck mate!!
