I have a new widescreen monitor and need a new graphics card. Mine is ancient and will not view properly (yes, I've checked). I'm not a gamer, but use my pc (XP Pro) mainly for internet and picture viewing/editing (some video and dvd playback). I don't need a super high end card and would prefer to go the inexpensive route as I'm looking for a PCI card. If I had to spend a lot I would just buy a new system. Can anyone recommend a good, inexpensive graphics card for me?

I just got a Xtasy Radeon X1300 512MB PCI-E x16 Video Card
which is quite nice and won't make you broke. It supports the resolution you mentioned.

However, this is a PCI Express card - not sure if you have just PCI or PCI Express, so you should make sure you are aware that there is a difference before buying a new card.

Anothing thing to consider is if you have an AGP slot - you can find better cards for the AGP than an old PCI and they are quite reasonably priced these days.

Geforce MX 4000, http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=716810&CatId=697 for $40 or the Geforce FX5200 for $50, http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1010678&CatId=697

It used to be possible to find Geforce 6200 PCI graphics cards but no site had those listed anymore. If you have the money, go for the FX5200 as it supports DirectX 9 and the MX4000 only supports DirectX 7, it probably won't affect you as much since you don't play games but still, it's a good idea to have the latest version of everything (even if you never use it).

Asus ATI Radeon X300 SE X (128MB, PCI)

ATI's Radeon X300 SE won't do 3D games justice, but the right bundle can provide that extra video port you've been looking for. Specs: 128 MB DDR SDRAM, ATI Radeon X300 SE, PC, 2048 x 1536:
$25 - $42

except you have a hybird crossfie/hybrid sli motherboard, which I doubt provided that your board seems to be older than that, the committed snap shots card will consistently replace integrated snap shots. on the different hand, even the main inexpensive committed card would be speedier than maximum, if no longer all, integrated snap shots chipsets. i'm uncertain, yet i think of you may nevertheless have the skill to apply the motherboard video outputs (for a finished of as much as 4 visual demonstrate unit contraptions).

^^ Anyone care?

Do you not have a AGP bus? IF not you can get a 6600 gs oc, its not too bad of a card for what your looking to do, and depending on your monitor it should be able to display at that resolution..
