Prunes are a natural laxative. I've always preferred to just eat a couple. They're actually pretty good. Be sure you're drinking plenty of water too. You don't want to go from one extreme to the other and get dehydrated. An awesome idea would be get some bran cereal, something really high in fiber, add some chopped up prunes and eat it for breakfast! Fiber will help regulate your movements. There are little cookies now, if the fiber section of the pharmacy, they might be worth trying too. I wouldn't try any medication without the approval of your doctor. He might be able to give you something that would help though, so call him up. They give colace to breastfeeding mothers, so it might be okay. I don't know for sure, so ask your OB. Hope you feel better soon.

When a co-worker was pregnant and had the same problem, I recommended an herbal tea from Traditional Medicinals called SMOOTH MOVE (easy to remember, huh?!).....she checked with her OB/GYN and he had no problem with Jackie drinking a cup of Smooth Move occasionally. The tea is supplied in individually wrapped packets, 16 to a box. Smooth Move contains fennel, licorace, and senna - all are considered laxatives. I'm 53 yrs old, and have constipation issues associated with peri-menopause. The tea works!! I fix a cup prior to going to bed at night - works overnight, no cramping associated with over-the-counter laxatives, etc. Very natural, and gets you back on track. FIRST CHECK WITH YOUR OB BEFORE TAKING ANYTHING!! Good luck!!

You shouldn't until you talk to your MD. It is probably from the iron in your prenatal vitamin which is very important so there is really no way around it. Another reason is people try to eat healthier when they are preg, which means less fat than your body is used to. Try natural method like prune juice etc first. Remember all medications whatever the form, ie suppos, nasal sprays, oral, topical, etc contain chemicals (medications) that could potentially effect your baby. Always ask your MD! Best of luck to you and your little one!

Talk to your OB. They will probably recommend a fiber suplement. Mine recommended the pill form of Fiber Con.

I would try less invasive means first & then consult your doctor if they don't work. Try prunes, pears, high fibre drinks, etc etc. Are you hydrated enough?
