I remember going in a friends XJ8 last year, his was from around 1998. We were driving along a country lane which was very badly surfaced and had lots of ruts and bumps, both big and small. The car truly glided along. However, I'm not keen on the smaller cabin of the Jag and wondered if the Lexus which is much more spacious would offer the same cossetting ride.

When you say better ride , I will assume you mean comfort level. If that is the case , you will probably get a bit better ride from the Lexus, but not a great deal more, on the other hand, handling and stability will get the Jag honors.

That was back then, today you will get top notch ride and handling from both models.

The lexus ls 400 by far,the jag of the late 90`s was a car developed many years ago under the old BMC,however they have had plenty of investment since Ford took over and improved basically everything on the car now

You know what, it's hard to tell but I think both of them are great contenders for the softest ride award. Anyway, I agree that the Lexus is more spacious but don't know if it's the softest. The same with the Jag.
