I'm not surer why it's lucky in Italy, but I know it's unlucky in the U.K.(and the U.S) because it was Friday the 13th when a pope killed the Knights of Templar.

Number 13 is considered unlucky in Italy, as well. Some popular Italian comedy are based on the "13 at dinner" topic, when they try all to get people 12 or find another one to reach 14 :)
It seems 13 bring misfortune because of what happend that time with Jesus ant the other 12 guys...
It's a luck one only if you spend you're money at Totocalcio, the most popular bet game based on soccer (at least till a few years ago): if you guess all 13 final results, you get rich!
The traditional unlucky number in Itly is however 17: according to folklore, beacause written using Roman number is XVII, which anagram is VIXI, which in latin means "I lived". So, I'm dead now.

The number 13 only means bad luck to those that believe in that fairy tale. As for the rest of the world the number 13 is just another number. Now some bad things did happen on one of the Fri the 13 and some crazy incidents have happen when 13 people were in the same place but 99% of those things never repeated. So the number 13 is not bad but what some people believe is ........................

I guess the number 13 is an unlucky number in many places. To me, on the contrary it is my lucky number.

Even my house number is 13.

13 is the universal un-lucky number for britain partly because of the defeat they received from the 13 original colonies in america. or at least thats what my history teacher told us/plus there is no 13 o clock, 13th month, etc.
