Ella Fitzgerald is THE female voice of all-time... in fact, she's THE voice, period... male or female, IMO. She is considered the First Lady of Song for a good reason... no one will ever measure up to her voice... amazing. I love many modern female vocalists such as Alanis Morissette, Melissa Etheridge, Stevie Nicks, Diana Krall, Linda Ronstadt, Martina McBride, Kelly Clarkson, Whitney, Madonna, Mariah, Celine, etc., but none have her tonal quality and agility, let alone range and pure warmth full of joy or other ranges of emotion. My fav is Janis Joplin. Of the extra youthful and alive team, it somewhat is Amy Winehouse. i'm not overjoyed with what she's doing together with her existence yet that has not something to do together with her song. to boot if own existence became a attention then Janis could would desire to be crossed off my record too.
