A rar file is a compressed file like a zip file. Download Winace. That uncompresses just about every file you can think of. the trial version continues after the trial period has ended - and just puts up a nag screen. if you select all in a folder - and right click a file - you can encrypt the entire folder and even file names - handy if you want to childproof something, keep something secure or have a large porno collection!

a rar file is already compressed, probably using a free program such as winrar which you can download from download.com. because it is already compressed, it doesn't make sense to try to compress it again. what you could do is extract it using winrar by right clicking the file and selecting extract here once you have downloaded and installed winrar. then, you could zip the file as you normally would.

Try a program called WinRar. You can download it for free here:

After installed, unRAR the compressed .rar file that you want to save as a Zip.

Then you can zip the files you just un-RARed using WinRar or Windows XP or Winzip or whatever software you want to use.

you just need to double click the file and there select the extract option and then give a destination for extracting the files,. once your files are extracted then you can zip it. remember that windows XP has winrar by default but if you are using any old version then you need to install winrar by downloading it on net.

.rar files are easily corrupted, sometimes .rar files are posted with repair files to go with them(in news groups) you might just be stuck with an unopenable .rar
