I just saw it last night and the car chase is amazing. It lasts so long and so many crazy things happen. Anyone know how they could film this with so many cars crashing and flipping and even driving FAST into oncoming traffic for ages. Its quite an old film from 1998 so I dunno how they could do all this safely but I guess it must have cost a shitload.

It's a great film isn't it?,it was all done with stunt drivers. In the sequence when they were driving into on coming traffic, when you see the cars flashing their headlights it was a code the drivers worked out to avoid crashing. Also the two actors weren't driving the cars, they just had steering wheels, the actual driving was done by stunt drivers sitting next to them

some of the stunt driving was done with a modifeid car, with the stunt driver sitting in a seat mounted in the boot looking out over the top of the car, almost like a ride on lawnmower, watch the special features on the DVD

The same director made Grandprix in the 1960s so he knows his stuff

I do know that for each car featured... they used 2 to 3 models of same car.

One left hand drive.. the other right hand drive with a fake steering wheel.

So when it looked like the actors were driving the right hand side models.... it was actually pro drivers driving from left hand side.

It was also filmed in the TUNNEL where the late DIANA was killed and most of it was done at night and Robert Deniro was not driving it was a right hand drive with a stunt man at the wheel

check out how they did the Matrix 2 car chase..... and probably it's simulair. Half of the cars are not real and the others don't drive that fast and practice the driving route.
