world peace can never happen - it is human nature to disagree and therefore fight.
It would be nice to think we've evolved a little since cavemen smacked each other over the head with clubs but actually it's only the clubs that have evolved.
The world has always been at conflict but right up till the middle of last century all news was local. Major global events were in the media but newspapers were regional. Nowadays the media is everywhere and we get to hear a lot more of what goes on, this makes the violence seem more prolific when in fact a lot of it has always been there. Newspapers carry articles of muggings in towns you've never heard of in countries you are only vaguely aware of. TV crews arrive immediately something happens and report blow by blow accounts.
Of course this saturation of violence and discord brought to your home via tabloid, broadsheet or television has meant that many people are immune to the sight and idea of it, when that happens, and it looses it's shock value, it's easier to experiment with violence yourself. It's too easy to say the media are entirely to blame for the increase, but maybe peoples reactions to it are to blame.

World Peace would be a wonderful thing but I don't think it could ever be possible. If there was a world without hate how would you know and appreciate what you have. But it would appear that things are getting worse, there is bickering and fighting between our own government yet they are trying to reconcile countries at war with each other and on a smaller scale there is feuding within our own community.

I think it is human nature to be discontent but recently it would seem this appears to be more prevalent. I think, as it has been said before, media has a lot to be blamed for. Whether it be fashion magazines telling you how you should look, or newspapers talking about religions in a defamatory manner, they all set to stir up unwelcome feelings within us and dare I say it, humans are weak, we love to hate and to not like things. We may feel compassion and love for the little African kiddies starving to death, but when it comes to the girl down the road who said a bitchy remark we are most unforgiving, or the lying rat of a boyfriend. It is human nature to be angry

OK Gary, I understand why you feel this way, but when Peace breaks out, it's never in the news. And issues do get resolved, conflicts do end, people do grow up. And that is where I think there might be a glimmer of hope. As societies get more prosperous, they have fewer children. Birth rates in affluent societies are plummeting, and populations are growing older. Older people tend to have learned to live more peacefully with each other. So perhaps when the median age is about 58, our neighbourhoods will be quiet and all the gardens will be tidy.

Fortunately, I will not live long enough to see it.

Human beings have only matured as a whole marginally.

We in the West have become nimby's about war, pestilence and famine.

In some ways this is good cos at least some of the planet is less violent than in the past. But world peace! Not in our life time! Worse luck!

You're absolutely right, of course.
I suppose we could be a bit less global in our ambitions for peace. Maybe just hope to be a bit more at peace within ourselves?
Maybe try not to be like the guy swearing at other drivers as he hurtles too fast down the road in his hurry to get to the 'World Peace' meeting?

All things are possible with God. What ever you say is true! You are the creator. Are you happy with your creation? If not, then change it! Everything starts with you. Peace is within you and is reflected in the world you observe. Think Peace, Share Peace, and Peace is yours.

I can't see world peace coming this century. I often wish we could sort out our own streets before charging into Iraq and Afghanistan. No discipline, no respect, greed and fear are amongst other things, the main obstacles.

Highly mobile communities mean that there is no sense of community. This lack of connection with the people around us means that some will regard nothing as sacred.

There never has been peace in the world and I doubt if there ever will.

A pre-disposition to use conflict to resolve differences is part of human nature.
