If he's a practiced liar, you probably won't. Otherwise, you can oftentimes tell someone's lying by how much he/she goes on and on when asked a direct question. Shakespeare's "Macbeth said: "I think that thou doth protest too much." Which means "you're lying."
I look for body language too. Eyes diverted, not looking you in the eye. Hands ringing or doodling. Nervous energy. Too much pausing between sentences....Or you could do what I do:ask, "Are you telling me the truth?" Try it with someone who isn't lying. Then try it with someone you suspect is lying. You'll figure it out. If it sounds like a lie, it probably is.

if u mean on msn or something like texting, he could take a wile to reply to u, or if its just normal conversartion then he wont make eye contact with u and he will play around with his hands alot. and he will keep fussing and acting odly, plus if that guy is ur bf just look him his eyes hold his hand ask him if he has lied to u with the mosty meaningful look on ur face. if u no he has lied,and he denies it, tell him that ur relationship wont work without any trust.im sure he will respect u and begin to tell u the truth more often .p.s sometimes guys lie becoz they are afraid to hurt u with wat they lied about, becoz they love u sooooo much

Well, it is easier to tell with blue eyed guys than brown eyed guys (for me, anyway). They get this innocent look on their face, and then say things like, "No, really! I mean it!"
