It's a common pattern among hate crimes that the attackers always hit the face more than any other body parts. These two Hispanic thugs who've been terrorizing Flushing Meadows are reported to assault and rob many Asian males--80% of their victims are Asians: more specifically, Asian males. If you've read the medical report of what happened to the latest victim who almost died from the beating, the parallel of racist beatings is congruent to that of a group of racist white men beating a black male.

How come I don't find anything in the press that this is a hate crime? Are hate crimes efficiently only what the whites do against anyone else?

By the way, this is not the first time I've heard of this kind of new hate crimes.

Yeah, the facts are faaar too fishy and so I would think it's definitely a racially motived hate crime. The media is just too sissy to say it is because some community or group of people are bound to call them racist.

If law enforcement has some evidence that the crimes are racially motivated--in other words, that these people are being attacked because of their race--then, yes, it would be a hate crime. Hate crime legislation is not limited only to white attackers. It applies to any crime that is motivated by racism, and is not limited to physical assault. There was a case in Kansas City, Missouri a few years ago where swastikas were painted on the house of a Jewish family and federal prosecutors stated that it could be prosecuted as a hate crime. (I don't recall the outcome of this case.)

The hate betweem Blacks and Whites mostly stems
from the Civil War, and the outright hating and murder of
Blacks after the War. There were of course power and control issues that brought about that war. It wasn't just
the slavery issue.
That creates a disparity in this country as if Blacks and Whites are the only ones subject to prejudice and
racism.
There are many races in this counrty, and racism is
due to things like people being afraid others will get their
jobs. And fear of difference. People without maturity
feel anyone that is differnent from them, must mean their
is something wrong with themselves. And they resent it.
But it's only thier own insecurity and lack of maturity
that makes them feel that way.
Sexism, racism, nationalism, and religious intolerance
are just false prides we use as excuces to cover the real
reasons for these things. It's called denial, and that of
course creates blaming, excuses, and justification.

You raise an interesting point and one I've not honestly thought about until now. I'm not sure I'd agree entirely that society would NOT call this a hate crime the way its been portrayed by the media, just that the phrase is more commonly attributed to white's. As society continues to evolve, I hope that hate crimes (regardless if race) will end. I can dream can't I?
