If a source of light is obstructed by a opaque bodies then shadows are formed,the size of the shadow depends on the position of the source & the body.As the body is obstructing the source the light cannot pass through and the rays which are just beside the body they travel & if the body moves then the other rays are obstructed by the body ,as the body moves the shadow appears to be moving.But I wonder that the shadow is formed at the night times also

As the sun moves across the sky, your length and position of the shadow changes. For example, early in the morning, your shadow will be facing west and is long.

shadow is formed due the portion of an opaque obj. that stops light. earths huge source of light is from the sun the earth move with respect to the sun hence it appears as though the source moves in the opp dir.as the source moves the angle between them{U and source changes} leading to the diif in the hts of shadows.
