A dogie is a runty, poor doing calf. Sometimes it's an orphan or the calf of an old cow or very young cow, or the victim of a theiving older calf in the herd. Dogie is a comment on body condition. Even a yearling can be "dogie" if it's doing poorly, not gaining weight, sickly, rough haired, etc.
