it used to be on channel 5 in the UK on a saturday afternoon. Think it was austrialian or canadian?

It was on Channel five when it first started, Saturday afternoon on a section called the core. (after a programme called harry and cosh) Set in Austrailia.

I think it's called "My Best Friend is an Alien" and the alien is a purple guy with a metal rod at the top of his head. I used to watch that show years ago.
That's my guess. It may not be that show.
