First and foremost, communicate! Remember that you will have disagreements, but the important thing is to talk them out and not let little things become big ones.

Don't go to bed mad at each other. Neither of you will sleep well and it doesn't help to let the issue drive a wedge between you. Even if you haven't resolved things, agree to talk about them (calmly) later on and call a truce for the time being.

Treat each other with respect. Consult each other on decisions that affect both of you and respect your spouse's opinion. Take your spouse's feelings into consideration in all that you do. Expect the same in return.

Remember the things that made you fall in love with each other and keep doing them.

Communication is the key. Talk rationally and honestly. No yelling. Do not cheat or cause mistrust. Always trust your partner and your partner will trust you. Treat others how you want to be treated. When they do something you like, tell them! Always do things together as a couple. Put God first in your marriage. If you are married, you have a partner. Remember that he or she is your partner in all decision making. Put yourself in their shoes at times. Understand their point of view. Talking to each other is very important. Keep the lines of communication open.

Sometimes, letting go seems like the easiest thing to do. But think about this: you've invested so much of your time and energy into another person; you've made a solemn promise; and you still know there's love, even if it's hiding underneath the surface. This website will show you how to save a marriage and avoid divorce, even if you're the only one trying https://tr.im/VtHvK

Don't fight over pointless things.

My mom and her husband (obviously my step dad) always fight over retarted things, so it makes you think that they could decide to divorce any day.

Example: If one of you put the silverwear in the drawer all sloppy... don't make a big deal out of it, and DEFINITELY don't let it start more fights so that you're mad at each other all day about other things. Try to ignore it, or you could just say something that they won't be offended over.

A man marries a woman hoping that she will never change.
A woman marries a man hoping that she can change him.
Both never happen.
The woman will change as she grows older and more confident and the man will never change, his habits are his habits.
Understand this and you will have a happy marriage.
