It's going off every 10 or 15 seconds- I have no idea why! Any ideas or advice would be great, thanks.

If it's a coarse tone rising and falling an octave about once a second then most BIOSes will make a noise like this if the CPU or motherboard is overheating. Most likely cause is that one of the fans (either the one in the power supply at the back or the one on the CPU) has failed, is clogged with dust or is otherwise not running properly. If the noise starts and stops then the fans aren't working well enough. If you boot it up and go into the BIOS setup there is usually a screen which will show the current temperatures and the warning threshold. Failing that if you blow through the fan grille at the back you may see dust or it may cure the problem for a short while which will prove the problem. Taking the cover off WITH THE MAINS DISCONNECTED and gently vacuuming the fans will probably fix it. An air duster aerosol also does the trick but makes a right mess around you.

Left as it is permanent damage to the CPU or motherboard may result after a while.

This may not apply to you but as a general rule, the floor is not a good place to keep a computer. Put it on a desk or at least raise it off the floor so the fan sucks less dust in.

Sounds like the bios. That's a small chip inside that tells the computer how to use all the components. If it is going like a siren I'd say that you are having memory trouble with the computer. Have you moved it at all or knocked it? You may have dislodged the memory chip. If the bios is broken them its bad news I'm afraid because its a new motherboard, which is the main circuit board inside.

Had something like that on an old server - turned out a fan blade had broken so it screamed like a siren. If you're talking about a laptop, that could be it because the fan could be cutting in and out.

It could be one of the above mentioned hardware failures, though also it could be your anti virus or anti spyware program, or even some lame trick someone pulled. my anti virus program makes siren noises when it finds a virus. turn your sound off and if its still making the sound its probably a hardware problem.

If you have external speakers try moving them away from the your monitor. The magnetic bits pay havoc with everything.

It sounds like a warning, your processor fan could have failed. take your cover off and make sure your fans are going- it is a warning, hardware or something may have failed.
