When ever I try to turn on my computer, right at the boot page (don't know what else to call it), it says "A disk read error occured Press Ctrl + Alt + Del to restart"

I have tried that many times and I keep on getting that error. Any suggestions?

It sounds like a main system file is missing. You may want to do a system recovery

It just may mean you have a corrupted file or files, it could also mean you are set to boot up on the cd drive and you have a disk in the cd drive. If your hard drive failed completely, it may say "No operating system found". Try booting up with a recovery disk if you have one. Without seeing it, it's hard to figure out what's going on.

I had the very similar probliem. It appeared when I connected my Seagate 40 gigs hdd thru rack mount. When drive connected directly it works perfectly, but when rack mount used Windows XP failed to boot with that annoying error "Drive read error occured ,,,". I tried different drives / racks / cables / fixmbr / fixboot ... nothing help.

The problem solved by __disabling IDE bus master __ in BIOS

I don't know why, but it works =)

Sounds like either your hard drive is not installed, installed
improperly, or has failed entirely. Does your computer also emit
a "clicking sound" if so your only option is a replacement hard
drive sorry.

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
