The perfume that I love the most (at the moment) and get many positive comments on is Hugo Boss Intense Woman, the following is the product description to give you some idea of the type of fragrance. It's not sweet and sickly at all.

Boss Intense is a unique combination of Vanilla Orchid and Ambery notes. Vanilla Orchid's strong heart notes are intensified by the warmth and depth of the Amber base notes. The Vanilla Orchid originates from the mountains, though the flower is small in size, its scent is very powerful and distinctive. The orange glow of Amber radiates its warmth through the other notes giving an overall aura of passion and sensuality. Boss Intense is an intensely feminine and sensual fragrance with a sophisticated edge.

Everyone bodies body reacts differently to perfume. So the perfume I use, Hugo Boss Red, may not smell the same on you as it does me.

Go into the perfume shop and try a load, they are always very helpful.

Also a quick hint.... take a small handful of coffee beans with you, after smelling each perfume smell the coffee beans. They neutralise your nose again so you do not get over powered by the different scents.

Well there are a lot of new fragrances that are out. Here are some that are popular and smell great. I personally wear a couple of Lancome's products, then Chance by Chanel #5, and some sprays form Victoria Secret.
Beyonce
Britney Spears
Lacoste Pink
Burberry tender touch
Estee Lauder Intuition Eau de Parfum Spray
DKNY perfumes
Dolce & Gabbana Eau de Parfum
Chanel #5s Chance= this is great

Order Tova Signature from QVC. Its the best perfume ever. I have worn this before and complete strangers have said you smell nice what are you wearing, this has never happened with any of the other well known perfumes Ive worn. If you order and dont like then send it back.

Try the range at B Never Too Busy To Be Beautiful. They have a store at Carnaby Street and one at Covent Garden, as well as a website. You can buy samplers of all of them. Prices vary but not extortionate. My favourite is called Keep It Fluffy. Makes me feel two stone lighter, ten years younger and a heck of a lot more lovely! Second favourite is called Om, and is very hippy/bohemian.
Enjoy exploring.

depends on your age. When you're younger, you should wear something fresher and citrus-like, not oily. You don't need perfume, just a good eau-de-toilette that you can spray on.
Heavier and richer perfumes are for older women, who tend to wear more makeup and more tailored clothes. Because their skin is drier, they need the oil-based fragrances.
PLEASE don't ever wear Poison fragrance, it stinks and is very unpopular in crowded areas. I know one person who was asked to leave a restaurant because they were wearing their fragrance and it was putting diners off their food! True!

Perfume reacts with your skin and produces a new smell, so you really can't go by anyone else's recommendations.

The Times newspaper did a perfume review recently. and they deemed all the 'celebrity' perfumes to be rubbish, so stick with the named perfume houses.

I wear Opium myself, but it's such a personal thing I'd never recommend it to anyone else.

it is all by trial and error.
I don't think you can go wrong with Chanel No 5...classic and beautiful
you just have to get some free samples from department stores and let it sink into your skin to see how it is
there are so many out there that you will be able to find one suitable after sampling a few
