The electron volt is the energy that we would give an electron if it were accelerated by a one volt potential difference. 1 eV = 1.602 x 10^ -19 J.
Energy gap is easier to calculate in ev because transition of electrons is a very common phenomenon easily expressible in ev since its a much smaller unit than Joule

DONOT CONFUSE photeelectrons with thermions...they are different.
In photoelectric effect only the energy provided by photons is taken into account.
effect of temperature on emission is thermionic effect.

1. The smallest amount of charge we can have is e, which is approximately 1.60 × 10–19 C. Every charge we can get must be a multiple of e. So we use eV as the unit. It is more convenient.

2. The photo electric effect only depends on the frequency. Every beside frequency doesn't affect the photo electric effect

eV are used because they are a convenient size - i.e. very small (Joules would be way too big) - and are a natural unit when considering energies relating to charges in fields.

The photo electric effect does have a dependency on temperature because the work function changes with temperature,

eV are the amount of kinetic energy gained by a free electron when it passes through an electrostatic potenrial difference of one volt. That's why we use them. Photoelectric effect does not depend on temperature. You can have emission of electrons by means of temperature but this is not called photoelectric effect. When you refer to this effect, you are talking about emission of electrons especifically after absoption of energy from electromagnetic waves.

Photoelectric effect is temperature independent bcoz it depends upon the intensity of the ray and frequency
