Year 1 is equivalent to the old 'lower infants' - they are 5 and 6 year olds.

To teach in a primary school, you would have to be a qualified teacher, either a B.Ed or degree then PCGE. It's a good idea to get some voluntary experience in a school before deciding on this career path.

Most of your answers have covered the basic qualifications. You will need 3 or more A levels to gain entry to university. Then you will need to pass a degree at a 2:1 or above so that you can apply for a post on a PGCE (post graduate certificate in education) course. The PGCE last a year and includes a minimum of 95 days teaching in school. After you have successfully completed this 6 year stint in further and higher education you will still have to pass 3 QTS tests in Maths, English and ICT, and complete a year full time teaching to become a fully qualified teacher. Seven years hard slog to then be paid a pittance compared to other post grads.

Be clever now and rethink!!

Good luck with whatever you choose.

Year 1 is 5 years old. The UK system starts with Reception (<5), Year 1 & 2 (5&6yr olds) in Infants.
Junior School is years 3 to 6 which covers the 7 - 11 yrs age group.
Then Senior School is years 7 to 13 which is 11 - 18. Years 12 and 13 are what we used to call 6th form.
To teach any of these age groups you will need a subject degree plus a post graduate teacher's certificate OR a teaching degree.
hope this helps.
I suggest you go to careers guidance.

they're around 5 and you will need a degree with QTS (qualified teacher status) or a B.Ed. to get on these courses you will probably have to have some experience so maybe doing some volutary work in a school or working as a classroom assistant for a while would be beneficial.
