Since the top letter-line has all the vowels except a, as well as the common letters t, r and p, it is not surprising that quite a number of long words can be typed from this line alone.

BUT... the LONGEST is NOT "typewriter", as is often claimed (though if it DID qualify, OTHER 10-letter words tie it).

Probably the longest verifiable word is the 12- letter "teetertotter" (though it is often spelled with a hyphen)

As for other long ones:
The TEN-letter "typewriter" is, of course, a classic. But there's also: "perpetuity", "proprietor" and "repertoire".

Also, these rarer words have been suggested:
pepperroot, pepperwort, pewterwort, pirouetter, prerequire, pretorture, repetitory, tetterwort

And for LONGER ones-- if you can find them!-- try also:
11 letters: rupturewort (this one IS real!)
12 letters: proterotype, pituitotrope, uropyoureter

typewriter might be the longest non consecutive word but I think Qwerty is the longest consecutive word...
Def: Qwerty- A name for the standard computer keyboard, named by first six keys from left on the top alphabetic row.

I've always wanted to use it in Scrabble, never had the chance.

Depends on the program you are typing in, not on the keyboard.
